Shooter Shuts Down Main Street

A gunman opened fire across from the government offices.

Suffolk County Police shut down the section of Main Street between New York Avenue and Maple Avenue Tuesday after a gunman opened fire on the street.

The shooting occurred across the street from Town Hall, on the south side of Route 25 from a second story apartment.

Police said a man in a Main Street apartment shot at two vehicles with a pellet gun, shattering one of the windshields. One of the cars was occupied by two women, the other vehicle was empty and nobody was hurt.

Four men, a woman and a 2o-month-old child were in the apartment, police said. They were removed by Suffolk County Emergency Services officers. It is unclear at this time if they lived in the apartment.

Police arrested the shooter just before 7 p.m. Sources report that the shooting was sparked by a domestic violence incident, but police have not confirmed the motive. They also have not released the shooter's name or what he will be charged with.
