Smithtown Woman Critically Injured After E. Northport Accident

Lucy DiPietro was leaving Best Buy shopping center when she was struck by another car, according to police.

A police investigation is underway in the two-car East Northport crash Friday night that critically injured a Smithtown woman.

According to Suffolk County Police, Lucy DiPietro, 71, of Smithtown, was driving a 2004 Buick leaving the Best Buy shopping center located at 3124 Jericho Turnpike when her car was hit by 2011 Mazda travelling eastbound in the left lane at 6:07 p.m.

DiPietro was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was listed in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Mazda, Jessica Rinn, 23, and DiPietro’s husband, Matthew, 76, were both transported to Huntington Hospital. Matthew DiPietro was listed in critical condition and Rinn was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Both vehicles were impounded and detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
