Stranded Jet Skiers Rescued in Nissequogue

Coast Guard and Suffolk Police responded on Monday night after jet ski engine failed.

The Coast Guard Long Island Sound sector, with the help of Suffolk County Police units, rescued two people 300 yards off of Short Beach in Nissequogue Monday night after their jet ski engine failed.

Initial reports around 9 p.m. indicated that the situation involved a capsized vessel. A Coast Guard boat, Suffolk County Police helicopter and Marine Police boat responded and at the scene found a disabled jet ski.

"It wasn't a capsized vessel situation after all," said Pete Winters of the Coast Guard Long Island Sound sector. "Two people were standing on top of a jet ski whose engine had stopped running. The people were fine and did not require medical attention."
