Suffolk County Says Water is Safe

County says locals who get water from its system do not need to worry.

Suffolk County water is safe, officials told worried locals on Tuesday, adding that reports online about water concerns apply only to though those who get water from private providers, not the county.

“If you are an SCWA customer, your water is as safe to drink now as prior to the storm’s arrival. There is no need to stock up on bottled water," SCWA Chairman James F. Gaughran said in a statement.

The county said it has used generators to ensure the delivery of clean water to homes, even if they do not have power.

Fire Island, which was ravaged by the storm on Monday, does not have access to county water, since the Long Island Power Authority shut off power on Sunday. The county said its workers will restore the water once they can get back on the island.
