Weir to Run Altschuler's Campaign

Wainscott resident Diana Weir has long history of political involvement.

Former East Hampton Town Councilwoman has agreed to be Randy Altschuler's 2012 congressional campaign manager as he once again takes on Rep. Tim Bishop, D-Southampton.

Weir, who lives in Wainscott and serves on the town's planning board, is the former executive vice-president of the Long Island Housing Partnership and a member of the Long Island Power Authority's board of trustees. She was the first Hispanic councilwoman to serve on the town board.

She was, until recently, the chairwoman of the Wainscott Citizens Advisory Committee and has been involved in the .

She has also served as Chief of Staff to Congressman Michael Forbes, e the Washington and Long Island offices. She resigned from that post before Forbes joined the Democratic Party in 1999.

“Diana is widely-respected across Long Island in the private, public and political arenas,” Altschuler, who lives in St. James, said in a statement on Monday.  “Today’s news continues the positive momentum my campaign has demonstrated since I announced my plans to seek a rematch against Congressman Bishop last spring.”

Weir said, “Given the depressed state of our local economy, Long Island is in desperate need of a representative with Randy’s business experience and proven track record of creating jobs.” She said she "couldn’t be more excited to take on this challenge and lead the charge to defeat Tim Bishop in November.”

Weir worked as a Senior Vice-President at the Bank of The Hamptons and as Senior Vice-President and Corporate Secretary for Smithtown Bancorp before serving in government.

She has served on the State University of New York Stony Brook Council, as a Suffolk County Human Rights Commissioner and co-chaired the Economic Development panel at the Long Island Hispanic Leadership Summit.

Given the demands of a campaign and its extreme partisan nature Ms. Weir should resign her Planning Board seat forthwith.

How about no. The race has not even started and you are already calling it partisan? I some how doubt that if a democrat member of the board worked for Bishop you would feel the same way.

“Given the depressed state of our local economy, Long Island is in desperate need of a representative with Randy’s business experience and proven track record of creating jobs.” Yeah, jobs in India, but he's not running for a seat in New Dehli, is he?

Can't she get an HONEST JOB? Altschuler sold Long Island jobs to Pakistan, the country that hid Bin Laden.
