Politics & Government

Nesconset/St. James Republican Club

The Saint James/Nesconset Republican Club will be holding its first public meeting on Monday, January 24th, at 7:30 p.m., at Sundried Tomato Café in Nesconset. The goal of the club is to give the residents of eastern Smithtown a voice in the affairs of their government. Smithtown represents a bastion of conservatism and efficient government in a state otherwise marred by irresponsible spending and excessive taxation of its citizenry. Our task is to ensure that Smithtown remains a government in touch with its people, while spreading its integrity and broadening its influence throughout our county and state.

We believe that Smithtown residents, unique in their knowledge and passion for government, deserve a platform to voice their concerns. Because the citizens of Nesconset and St. James presently lack such an outlet, our intention is to fill that void.

While the State of New York is in dire straits, inundated with debt and facing the prospect of fiscal insolvency, Smithtown, under the stewardship of Town Supervisor Patrick Vecchio, has proven the virtues of economic restraint and pragmatic provincial leadership. From its town board to its county and state representatives, the Smithtown Republican Party has long been the model of true American leadership, the continuity of which is imperative to the redemption of New York’s economy.

Having been born and raised in Smithtown and presently experiencing the sheer joy of raising my family in Nesconset, I take great pride in the community values and the sense of kinship that defines the town in which I live. My hope is that my children, when they come of age, may also find a home in Smithtown. I fear, however, that by the time they are grown, New York will have ceased to be a state worth living in.

Without true reform of our broken programs, such as the state pension system and Medicaid, and without an easing of the tremendous burdens placed upon our citizenry through excessive taxes and regulations, our state is doomed to continue the disastrous trend of decline that has plagued our economy for decades. The historic gains, nationwide, of conservative Republicans in the 2010 elections, did not take root in New York. These results, along with many other factors, have led me to conclude that the problems of our state are systemic.  New York desperately requires a stronger commitment, from its residents and from its leaders, to pragmatic and efficient reform. I wholeheartedly believe, now more than ever, that it is up to Smithtown to provide the leadership and to build a foundation for achieving these worthy goals.

So, with extreme enthusiasm and ardent hope, I call upon my neighbors and friends, residing in Nesconset and St. James, to join our nascent movement. Inaction, I fear, will only lead to further discontent, while community involvement and individual drive, qualities innate to the people of Smithtown, may lead to a rebirth of prosperity. We face a daunting task ahead. However, with the help and the leadership of the Smithtown Republicans, and the enterprise of an active public, there is no limit to what we may achieve.

To all who are interested in making a difference and joining the fight for a greater and freer New York, please come and join us on Monday, January 24th at 7:30 p.m., at Sundried Tomato Café, as we begin to effect true and lasting change.
