Speaking at the Sheraton Long Island in Hauppauge, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton urged over 700 individuals at a gun rights conference to vote for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, calling current President Barack Obama's policies "an assault on our sovereignty," according to a Newsday report.
The Sunday conference, sponsored by the Sportsman's Association for Firearms Education, also featured Republican candidate for U.S. Senate Wendy Long, as well as several National Rife Association board members as speakers.
According to the Newsday report, the event – called the 2012 Civil Rights Conference – was organized to raise funds for the Commack-based group's legal defense fund. According to the group's website, several pieces of proposed and enacted legislation in New York State infringe upon the Second Amendment, granting individuals the right to bear arms.
