House Speaker Boehner Coming to Smithtown for Altschuler Fundraiser

Fundraising battle continues as rematch in New York's First Congressional District heats up.

Speaker of the House John Boehner will be coming to St. James to help raise money for Randy Altschuler as money continues to pour into the rematch between the Republican challenger and incumbent Democrat Tim Bishop.

According to Newsday, Boehner, R-Ohio, will be attending a fundraiser at the private home of Stephen and Carolyn Louro in Nissequogue, not far from Altschuler's St. James residence.

As the two candidates started debating last week, ads have been hitting the airwaves and fliers from several different organizations — namely, state committees and super PACs — started arriving in potential voters' mailboxes.

, topping Altschuler by fewer than 600 votes after more than 180,000 votes were cast.

Boehner will visit Suffolk Oct. 10, reportedly making a couple of other fundraising stops in New York while he's in the area. Newsday reports that tickets at the private party start at $250, with VIP photo ops going for $1,000 and a VIP roundtable for $5,000.

Louro, named one of Long Island Business News' top 40 under 40 in 2001, founded Professional Group Plans in the early 1990s and according to tax records, pays one of the highest property tax bills in Smithtown — more than $80,000 last year.

Louro's company is headquartered in the Hauppauge Industrial Park, with additional locations in New York City, New Jersey and Connecticut. PGP employs more than 100 people, and specializes in offering group health insurance to other companies.

Obama Urges Companies to Break Federal Law for His Reelection
For Obama and the left, the law is merely a suggestion for what they can do. Can't get something through Congress? Simply issue an executive order. Can't get an appointment through the Senate? Simply "declare" the Senate in recess and appoint away. Act now and let the judges sort it out later. For the past several weeks, several defense contractors made it clear they would have to send out layoff notices to thousands of workers due to automatic budget cuts set to take affect in January. The cuts are triggered by the debt ceiling "deal" hatched last year. The layoff notices are required under federal
James Pollard October 2, 2012 at 04:13 pm
cont" Understandably, the Obama Administration was panicked by this. The notices would hit in the last month of his reelection campaign and have a huge impact in the critical swing state of Virginia, home to hoards of defense contractors. What to do? Simple. Ignore the law. Yesterday, Lockheed Martin, a massive contractor, announced it had reached a "deal"with the White House and would not send out the legally required layoff notices. The Obama Administration had "interpreted" the law and found it would be "inappropriate" to send out the layoff notices. More amazingly, the White House promised to pay any fines or penalties that might be leveled against the company for violating federal law. Read that again.Yes, the White House just told companies to violate federal law and that, if they get in trouble for it, the government will cover their fines. Let's remember, this federal law requiring the lay-off notices, the WARN Act, was passed in 1988 by a veto-proof Democrat Congress. It went into affect without President Reagan's signature. It was an urgent matter for Democrats, until, apparently, they didn't like the consequences of it.Nothing must interfere with Obama's reelection. Not even federal law.

Here we go again. Hate, not love. Whatever your opinion why not take him down to view the lovely beaches in Nissequoge? America is beautiful because we can vote and say whatever is in their hearts. I know what's in my heart and I respect what's in yours. Really!

"Politicians come and go but the Bosses are with us always" Nucky Thompson Boardwalk Empire. Fiction but fact. Politicians are mere puppets for the Ones that own and control Banks,Wall St.and the major corporations. They don't care at all about the average citizen. Doesn't it show? Can't you see it? Most people are so brainwashed and programmed they believe what they are told. We could have a much better Country if it were run fairly.Instead we're pawns and cannon fodder

Tim has ~600 likes on his own FB. I got banned from his page cause I questioned his middle class stance and union contributions. Guess that question was too hard for him. So much for transparency. Block the hard questions and bring on the censorship instead

He does cry a whole lot John M. Good one.
Jaguar-Guy October 2, 2012 at 04:41 pm
Good and Great points James. Yes, the Administration has encouraged businesses to NOT lay-off workers (that are going to be laid off) until AFTER the election. The ADmonistration has, in turn, agreed to pay the defense legal bills of the lawbreakers the government is encouraging to break the law - simply outrageous !! They government is paying legal bills for defending people and groups they are suing - just 3 cases amounted to a $99,000,000.00 Million Dollar legal bill - with the cost borne by the US Taxpayer.
robkoz October 2, 2012 at 04:41 pm
Agreed. But IMO you have to not let politicians become career politicians. It ends up letting them get too comfortable, too cocky and too corrupt. I'd rather keep the puppet masters guessing who they'll have to mooch off of every election. If Randy wins and I don't see improvement on LI then he's out next election. That's how I roll.

A Lockheed statement said the company was assured any costs incurred by contractors who failed to warn employees would be "allowable and recoverable" from the government.
I wonder if that reimbursement of costs will come out of our taxes or Obama's campaign funds. No I don't, we all know we'll be paying for it - well, not the 47% that aren't paying taxes anyway.

Perhaps the administration is sure that the terminations will never take place. The Democrats may take the House or the radical Right in the House may come to its senses before the deranged budget cuts that it imposed on the country take effect in January and drive us into a renewed recession. There IS precedence for this belief in that these ideological extremists seemed poised to put the federal government into catastrophic default on the national debt in 2011 but patriotism overcame ideological zealotry at the last moment.
It would be cruel under the circumstances to frighten people with the loss of their livelihood merely because of Republican posturing.
feelinfourty October 2, 2012 at 05:22 pm
Whooo I am so scared of the three little panthers. But really terrified of people having the right vote their conscious so let us create a obstacle to one way we all have voice. Republicans know they are going the way of the dinosaur. So they are freaked out. The funniest thing about repubs is that they constantly contradict themselves. They claim to be worried about voter fraud but the one way voter fraud is very prevalent is with the absentee ballot and they did not do one thing about it. Could that be be because the company that is signing up voters for registration for them was going to use that avenue ,Hmm.
Underdog October 2, 2012 at 05:53 pm
Perhaps... oh, there's a great strategy for success... perhaps.
So the rationale is: we can ignore Federal law because "perhaps" the problem will go away. With 30+ years in this business you can believe me Hat, people in the Defense industry are sufficiently frightened already.

While the Republicans have assumed the outraged virgin persona for this specious claim, the truth is that nothing will come of their assertions. No one will be laid off UNLESS the radical Republicans force the country into recession. A reasonable man would conclude that that is unlikely, even for a party that, collectively and individually, has shown itself indifferent to the suffering it causes to ordinary (i.e. not rich) Americans. At this point, layoff notices would be purely speculative and are premature.

Mitt Romney’s health care platform would leave 72 million Americans without insurance by the year 2022, according to a new study by the Commonwealth Fund. President Obama’s approach, the researchers found, would mean 27.1 million are uninsured.

Hat, Sequestration goes into effect Jan 2, including $500 billion in Defense cuts, unless Congress can agree on a deficit-reduction plan, a recession has nothing to do with it. Obama put the gun in the monkey's hand when he signed off on the Sequestration Act in a game of high stakes "Chicken" and now he's trying to make out like the gun isn't loaded..
60-day WARN notices are required under Federal law if "mass layoffs are reasonably foreseeable", the WARN Act doesn't specify who gets to decide forseeable, so if a company believes layoffs are "reasonably foreseeable" they have to issue WARN notices or be held liable for individual or class action lawsuits. For the Adminstration to say they'd cover any legal costs for an employer failing to issue WARN notices amounts to bribery and surely implies they consider layoffs to be a distinct possibility.
Chris K October 2, 2012 at 07:52 pm
Politics at its best. "I can outspend you on negative ads." The race this year between these two men is even more despicable than 2010 in terms a negativity. I have lost count of the number of flyers mailed to my residence and number of commercials I see with BOTH sides just calling the other candidate shocking names ie outsourcer, unethical and scare tactics ie vote for him and you are doomed.
It's insulting to me as a voter. I am know nothing more of either candidate as a result that would make me feel either deserve my vote. This two party dictatorship is the demise of our political system. Career politicians love political parties and political parties love career politicians. this is what our system generates

Actually, the extremist House Republicans, for the first time in the history of the United States, threatened to throw the country into default if the Democrats didn't agree to their demands. The REASON that it never happened before is because it is INSANE (just ask any economist.) Not being irrational, and fearing that the Republican True Believers were prepared to fulfill their threat and destroy the economy of the country, the Democrats agreed.. Are the layoffs "reasonably foreseeable"? I think not. So far, the Republicans' doomsday weapon has not been activated and it seems impossible that anyone, even Republicans in thrall to their own solipsistic dogma, would sacrifice their own countrymen on the altar of their faith. (Not to mention the possibility that they will be soon be in the minority and the party of reason and compassion will forestall their mad oblation.) The administration decision is perfectly legal and will survive any challenge. There will be no repercussions.

The Commonwealth Fund is headed up by Dr. David Blumenthal who was an Obama Advisor....sorry, I am truly skeptical of the Fund's "researchers".

Speaking of 'stealing elections' ...the DOD and Pentagon who were responsible for setting up the Voting Assistance Offices as required by law but claimed funding problems are trying to steal this election by disenfranchising our military's right to vote...That's a far cry from a PA lawsuit which requires proof of identification.
If you know of any military personnel that are looking for an absentee ballot, have them go to www.heroesvote.org...please pass this on.

Mary Beth?
Please tell me you have half a clue? Please educate yourself on the facts of stealing elections specifically Minnesota and Philadelphia! History can only be altered and revised do much by your liberal media and liberal professors before truth and reality prevail.
Robert Emanuel October 3, 2012 at 06:07 am
Why are libs so afraid to have people produce identification to vote? Be it a benefit card with photo or license or ss#! Why would a liberal be opposed to such a common sense notion? Because it may truly reveal how corrupt the left is with bussing people to the polls to vote under different names such as acorn did last election. If you don't contribute to this country in some shape or fashion why should you contribute to the election process? Ohhh I know the answer, cause The left will accuse you of being a demonic extremist republican with racial bias motives this way she and her party will get there way. Hopefully those days of crying wolf will come to an end and people will judge based on merit, values, work ethic, and simple morals. And lastly Mary Beth and John gruber, I don't listen to rush Limbaugh but I do listen to my neighbors and co workers and you are in the minority as far as your ideas about where this country is headed under this administration so call me ignorant but please debate facts and not reiteration of msnbc banter.

I'm not a "lib" But I have been voting for 40 years and not once have I had to show ID. I'll be dipped in dog poo if I will start now because you neanderthals think that will send the undocumented persons back home. Idiots.
Robert Emanuel October 3, 2012 at 11:26 am
Allege bra,
Like all things in life, things change. If you refuse to show id to vote don't vote. Nothing to do with Neanderthal thinking. When you open an account at the bank do you need show Id? When you go into a bar and order beer when you were younger did you show id? When you go to a library and take out a book did you show id? So why not produce id for such a significant matter as voting for our next president whom will represent us to the world? Why? Because we all know the answer? Many people like I said who do not contribute to the country will not be able to vote under someone else's name. Fact!
Robert Emanuel October 3, 2012 at 11:28 am
Btw algebra. Your thinking alone should force you to dip yourself in dog poo! Lol
