Road Work Ahead for Route 25A in Saint James

North Country Road will have various lanes closed over the next two weeks for repaving.

Drivers should start finding alternative routes as Route 25A in St. James will get repaved over the next two weeks.

New York State Department of Transportation announced they be closing down lanes of North Country Road to repave from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m on various days over the upcoming weeks.

"We have repaired as much as our crews could and we had a very rough winter. These roads cannot wait for a long-term project, we are repaving to ensure people's safety," said Eileen Peters, spokeswoman for DOT.

Specific dates and times for North County Road work is not available at this time as the work is done as weather permits, according to Peters.

Motorists should keep an eye out for electric road signs that will provide further details on specific dates and times.

Peters said the repaving Route 25A will be a two-step process that will involve several days of removing the asphalt before crews come back to repave the streets.

"We very strongly advise they take an alternative route," she said.

For real-time travel information, motorists can call 511 or visit www.511NY.org, New York State’s official traffic and travel information source.

Residents can also view road traffic during repaving through INFORM Transportation Management cameras at www.INFORMNY.com and on their hand held communication devices at www.INFORMNY.mobi.

New York State's Move-Over Law requires drivers must move to a lane away from any vehicles with amber lights, including construction vehicles, and reduce their speed.  Violators face moving violation fines and points on their drivers’ licenses. Fines are doubled in a work zone.
