Smithtown Notebook: Bamboo Public Hearing Scheduled, Legis. Kennedy Commends Commack High School Students

Bamboo growth and property infiltration, an issue first heard more than eight months ago, gets a public hearing date; Legis. John M. Kennedy Jr. commends Commack High School peer mediators on their work.

During the June 7 town board meeting, the board voted to have a public hearing for a proposed amendment to the town code regarding bamboo, which will take place June 23.

The proposed amendment states, “No owner, tenant or occupier of property anywhere within the Town of Smithtown shall cause, suffer or allow bamboo to be planted, maintained or otherwise permitted to exist within ten (10) feet of any property line, street, sidewalk or public right of way.”
