Stamp Prices to Increase Next Week

U.S. Postal Service rates are set to change on Jan. 27.

Mailing a letter will cost you a penny more starting next week as the U.S. Postal Service rate changes go into effect.

Stamp prices will increase one cent, from 45 cents to 46 cents, to mail one-ounce letters, effective Jan. 27. The cost for letters weighing more than one ounce will remain the same - 20 cents for each additional ounce.

Postcard stamps will also see a one-cent increase, from 32 cents to 33 cents. Letters under one ounce mailed anywhere internationally will cost $1.10.

Those looking to save a bit could stock up on the Forever stamps (which cost 45 cents until the one-cent increase on Jan. 27). These are usable even after stamp prices increase.

You can pick up your Forever stamps at:

  • Nesconset Post Office
  • St. James Post Office
  • Smithtown Post Office

why not $1.00? my reasoning is simple anyone mailing a letter today is either needs to or has no choice, like having to pay a toll to cross a bridge most pay online or send email. They should set a market based price considering they are running a multi billion dollar deficit. If the post office charges this would you be harmed or would you use other means?
