Talk Back: What Intersection Needs a Traffic Signal?

Clearly there are plenty of blown stop signs in Lindenhurst, but which intersection could really use a traffic light?

We've heard your complaints - there are more than quite a few corners with stop signs that are ignored throughout Lindenhurst.

(Join that conversation here: .)

Among the most-run stop signs mentioned by residents include:

  • The one at the end of the ramp from Wellwood Avenue to Sunrise Highway near Kennedy Realty.
  • North Eighth Street and West Hoffman Avenue and North Fifth Street and West Hoffman Avenue, both North of the LIRR tracks.
  • Delaware Avenue and Herbert Avenue.
  • Catskill and 35th Street.
  • the stops on Shore Road, Maple Avenue and New York Avenue.
  • Birs Avenue and Washington Drive.
  • North Broome Avenue and Charles Street.
  • East Gates Avenue and South Alleghany Avenue.
  • West John Street and North Greene Avenue.
  • , where a woman was last September.

And those are just a few that were named.

But what do you think, Lindy?

What intersections in Lindenhurst and North Lindenhurst need a traffic light?

Montauk Highway and 13th Street. Speed limit is 40 and cars are doing 60 mph and more! Almost impossible at times to make a left turn. Multiple accidents here.

I'd like to see a traffic light at the intersection of S. Hoffman Ave. and Broadway (where a 47 year old woman was struck and killed a while ago). It is very difficult after driving north on Broadway until you reach S. Hoffman Ave. to be able to make a left hand turn heading west with drivers flying east on S. Hoffman going 60 mph.

I agree on Hoffman & Broadway very difficult making left turn and even right turn at times, why there is no traffic light there is one of life's great mysteries. also cars parked of Hoffman block your view of approaching cars . another problem is the turn lane on Hoffman which is way too long and wide it is confusing as to where people are turning ..........2nd st? or Broadway?

I'd like to see a left turn arrow for southbound N.Delaware Ave. onto eastbound S.Hoffman Ave. There have been many accidents at this location. At certain times of day there's a constant flow of northbound traffic on S.Delaware and it's almost impossible to make a left turn.
