Keeping Your Garbage Disposal Running Problem Free

Like anything with moving parts, a little routine maintenance will help your disposal run better and last longer.

Like anything with moving parts, a little routine maintenance will help your disposal run better and last longer.

  • Always use cold water. This will ensure that any grease that may get into the unit will be solidified and chopped up before reaching the trap.

  • To keep the blades sharp fill the unit with ice cubes and turn it on. To ensure optimum performance do this every month or so. When most of the ice is crushed, run the unit with hot water; this will help to clean it out.

  • To keep your disposal from smelling bad, use it often and with a lot of water. If your unit is omitting a foul odor already, pour about 2-3 cups of lemon juice into it. Let the lemon juice sit in there for about five minutes then run the unit while running plenty of water.

Following these few simple tips should allow you and your garbage disposal to spend many happy years together. If it is too late for you to heed this advice and your sink is clogged with any of the above please feel free to call Outstanding 631.615.9184 we would be more then happy to help.
