The four local students are in a pool of 300 nationally.

Four students from Smithtown High School East and Smithtown High School West have been named as semifinalists in the Intel Science Talent Search.

The talent search is a national pre-college science competition that could compete for $100,000. The competition has produced Nobel Prize and National Medal of Science winners.

Of the 300 students selected as semifinalists, 40 will be invited in March to Washington, DC to publicly show their work and be judged by notable scientists.
