Back to School Countdown: Summer Facilities Improvements

7 days 'til school, 7 summer facilities improvements.

This summer, the Smithtown Central School District completed a full range of  renovation projects to greet students in the fall.

Both high schools underwent significant changes. At a new chiller and kitchen hood were installed to improve the cafeteria. 

At High School East, multiple corridors received new tile flooring. Construction of a new synthetic field began at East and the project remains on schedule, according to Don Wallace, Maintenance/Mechanic for the Smithtown district. October 1 is the expected date of completion.

Both high schools had work done to the auditoriums, according to Superintendent Ed Ehhman.

A new cafeteria and kitchen floor was installed at Great Hollow Middle School.

The elementary school libraries at Dogwood, Mt. Pleasant, Tackan and Branch Brook Elementary all were expanded and now feature Smartboard technology.

At Mills Pond Elementary the windows and heating system were replaced.

At all 14 schools, new energy efficient vending machines were installed.

"Our custodians, maintenance crews and grounds crews have been working hard to prepare our 14 schools for a new year," Superintendent Ehmann said.
