East, West Seniors Qualify as National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

Seven seniors in total from East and West make the cut out of the roughly 1.5 million students that took the qualifying exam.

Seven seniors from high school East and West were selected as semifinalists in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program.

From East Aniksha Balamurugan, Justine Talbot and Haleigh Williams were selected as semifinalists; from West, the semifinalists are Alexander Barnes, Michael Catalano, Allie Cohen and Emily Roach.

Roughly 1.5 million students were screened for the program by taking the 2010 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test and the highest scoring students were selected as semifinalists, a selection that represents less than one percent of the 1.5 million students who took the exam nationwide.
