Photo of the Day: Flanagan Reads to St. James Elementary Kids

The political official read Marsha Amstel's "Sybil Ludington's Midnight Ride" with fifth graders.

Fifth grade students at were treated to a visit from a local politician to assist in reading Marsha Amstel's “Sybil Ludington’s Midnight Ride."

State Sen. John Flanagan, R-East Northport, visited Michael Klee’s class to read the with the students, the story of a 16-year-old girl who alerted locals of the British attack on Danbury in 1977. They read the story to show what great things the youth could potentially do for their country.

Flanagan also took the time to speak with the students about his responsibilities as a state senator.

"As a parent of three, I know how crucial my children’s teachers were in providing them with a real sense of the importance and enjoyment of reading," Flanagan said. It is a fundamental building block that will enhance the future educational success of all of these students."
