A $20,000 scholarship courtesy of Foot Locker Foundation and DoSomething.org was handed out to a Smithtown High School West senior, one of 20 students to get the scholarship.
Michael Catalano received the scholarship for his academic excellence, strength of character and devotion to their sports and their communities. He was also selected for being a strong leader in the community and displaying sportsmanship on and off the field.
The senior took over the annual for Mark Valentino, who created the run to honor the late track coach a year earlier.
Catalano was one of 20 students to get the award as part of inaugural Foot Locker Scholar Athletes Program.
