Smithtown West Boy's Lacrosse Runs Past Whitman

Wildcats lose at home in boys lacrosse, 17-6.

Smithtown West dominated Whitman in boys lacrosse action Wednesday, 17-6.

With exceptional ball sharing and quickness, Smithtown (11-1) was up 6-1 by the end of the first quarter and was well in control by halftime with a 10-2 lead.

Bulls coach Bob Moltisanti said the Wildcats have a good coach and a solid program but he has some excellent players capable of putting together some big quarters, which is what happened Wednesday.

"When they are on, it's tough to stop," said Moltisanti.

Smithtown players Ryan Keenan, James Pannell, Matt Schultz and Alex Dodge contributed with three goals and two assists each.

Whitman coach Bob Howell said Smithtown is probably one of the best teams in the country with a lot of talent, but he's proud of his team for finishing strong at home.

"I'm not going to take too much away from our kids because they played right to the end," said Howell. "They were just a little bit better than us today."

Howell said to stay in the playoff hunt (7-3) needs to win some games.

Leading scorers for the Wildcats were Mike Chimenti and Mitchell Bermudez with three goals each.
