Smithtown school officials will take a second look at revising their athletic and extracurricular activities on Tuesday night as well as plan the first meeting of the budget season.

Smithtown Board of Education will hold a public meeting 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Joseph M. Barton building on New York Avenue. All district residents and taxpayers are welcome to attend.

In sports, the Board of Education will consider adding a clause to it's Interscolastic Eligibility procedures that states, "selected students in grades 7&8 may participate on the varsity interscholastic athletic teams under the provisions of the selection classification program."

This selection classification program is outlined under the Board of Education's policy 5280 requiring input from the middle school coaches, student's physical education teacher, school administrator, guidance counselor, parents/guardian and doctor.

In addition, the board will review and approve the set calendar for February which includes the first budget workshop for the 2014-15 school year on Feb. 4.

They should do drug testing for all athletes. Would be surprised. Good start.

The BOE thought the Smithtown School District app was the greatest thing when they announced it at a board meeting. It hasn't been updated in almost a year. If you look at it you will see it still list Anthony Annunziato, Joan Niles and Maria Rianna on the app. Another great job by the district and board

It was nice to see the meeting run by someone that acts like a professional
