Smithtown Scenes: Opening Day at Smithtown Schools

Smithtown students at the 14 district schools began the 2010 - 2011 academic year on Tuesday, Sept. 7.

There was a scheduled first day two-hour delayed opening. Between 9:20 and 11:45 a.m., students entered renovated district buildings updated during the summer break.

District-wide curriculum additions and other academic initiatives are planned at each school, but the district still faces economic challenges this year as it operates with reduced state aid.
