Smithtown School Board of Ed. Members Run Unopposed

Theresa Knox and Louis Liguori both seek a 7th term on the board.

Two Smithtown Board of Education members will be running unopposed for re-election this May despite public dismay at the proposed $224 million budget for 2013-14 school year.

Board Vice President Theresa Knox is seeking her fifth term representing the taxpayers of Smithtown Central School District. Board trustee Louis Liguori, first elected in 2006, will be seeking his third term on the board. Board of Education members serve three-year terms.

Knox was selected as vice president of the Board of Education in July 2011 at the board's annual reorganizational meeting.

The Smithtown Board of Education will hold its next meeting at 8 p.m. Tuesday, where residents will have the chance to voice any issues or concerns with the adopted budget and last-minute changes can still be made. The public budget hearing is set for May 14.

Smithtown residents will head to the polls vote on the budget and board trustees on May 21.
