Smithtown School Notebook: District Meets Once During Break

Meetings

The will meet just once during Passover-Easter Recess.

The Board of Education will hold a regular meeting Tuesday night at 8 p.m. at the Joseph Barton Building on New York Avenue. Superintendent Edward Ehmann said at the community budget meeting last Wednesday that the district will review the budget during Tuesday's board meeting.

The superintendent unveiled the $215.8 million proposed 2012-2013 budget last Wednesday, a budget that would lay off roughly 45 faculty and staff members and increase 1.63 percent over the current budget.

News and Notes

 received new flags from the Nesaquake PTA. The flags that now sit on the light poles are just one part of the school's beautification process. The flags commemorate the 1971 establishment of the school.

, science teachers at Smithtown High School East, won the Western Suffolk BOCES Model Schools Teacher Integration Award, an award that brought in a $1,000 Model Schools grant.

Right before Easter the to be given to the River Fund of New York to be handed out to children in low-income households, filled with candy, stuffed animals and hand-made cards. 

Schools will re-open from Passover-Easter Recess on April 16.
