Smithtown Schools Call for Early Dismissal Due to Snow

All after-school activities and sports practices are cancelled on Tuesday.

Smithtown students will be able to frolic in the snow on Tuesday. 

Smithtown Central School District has announced it will be holding early dismissal for all students on Tuesday as the snow has begun to fall. 

A message posted on the district's website reads, "Smithtown School District will be closing early due to inclement weather." 

Here are the times: 

  • High School East and West - 11 a.m. 
  • Middle Schools - 11:30 a.m. 
  • Early-start elementary schools - 12:10 p.m. 
    (Branch Brook, Dogwood, Mills Pond and Smithtown)
  • Late-starting elementary schools - 12:40 p.m. 
    (Accompsett, Mt. Pleasant, St. James and Tacken) 



Forecasters at the National Weather Service have issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Smithtown area until 5 p.m., calling for up to 3 - 5 inches of snowfall. 

Smithtown school officials have also announced all after-school activities and sports activities will be canceled on Tuesday. The Board of Education meeting scheduled for 8 p.m. will also be rescheduled. 

St. Patrick's School has announced those students riding Smithtown buses will be dismissed early. It has cancelled afternoon pre-k classes and all after-school activities. 

St. James Lutheran Pre-School has announced there will be no PM pre-school classes, according to Newsday.
