Smithtown Schools Close Wednesday Due to Snow

Heavy snowfall and dangerous roads give Smithtown students a day off.

Smithtown students will rejoice to find out they have a snow day on Wednesday. 

Smithtown Central School District announced all schools will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 22 due to heavy snowfall blanketing the Smithtown area Tuesday into Wednesday, according to its website.  All after-school and evening activities are cancelled. 

Forecasters with the National Weather Service have declared a winter storm warning for Long Island as between 8 and 12 inches of snow are predicted, with snow falling at a rate of one to two inches per hour into the late evening on Tuesday.

The district's Business Affairs committee meeting, originally scheduled for Wednesday night, is cancelled. 

The Town of Smithtown's School Age Child Care Program will also be closed on Wednesday.
