East met West to kick off the League III season this week, and West roared out of the gates with a commanding three-game sweep, capped off Friday with a 3-0 shutout tossed by Nick Zito. The complete-game, five-hitter saw Zito allow just one walk while striking out five. Tyler Reinig’s RBI single in the fifth inning capped the scoring for West, which took two of the three games at High School East.

West grabbed game one of the series Wednesday with a 6-2 victory, led by pitcher James English, who threw a four-hitter over six-plus innings, with no earned runs, two walks and nine strikeouts. English also delivered a bases-loaded single that gave West a 6-0 lead. East scored twice in the seventh and had runners on the corners with no outs, but Anthony Gatto struck out the next three batters for the save.
