Smithtown Tween's Winning Essay to be Broadcast on Local Radio Stations

Regan Kielmeyer, 12, will have her winning essay recorded and broadcast on several local radio stations.

An Accompsett Middle School student will record and have her winning essay broadcast on a local radio stations this September.

Regan Kielmeyer, 12, recently won the school’s annual essay contest, which is open to Long Island students from kindergarten through grade twelve. A winner is chosen from the primary, intermediate, middle school and high school grades. All entrants competed to create an essay titled, “How School Makes Me Feel Good to be Me.”

“School makes me feel good about me because it reminds me every day of my potential,” said Kielmeyer, who plays alto sax in her school band, plus piano, guitar, and drums. She also participates in a Smithtown lacrosse travel team, and soccer and basketball leagues. Her favorite subject is science.

Kielmeyer and her older brother Evan have started an online charity called StixTogether.com, collecting lacrosse equipment which they donate to, kids who cannot afford to buy this equipment. They have donated equipment to youth in the Bronx and Harlem and to youngsters in other countries, bringing it with them when they travel.

As the winner in the Middle School Division of the 13th annual School Essay Contest, her essay will be aired, in her own voice, on eleven radio stations at the start of the school year in September.
