Smithtown East Quarterback Preps for Breakout Season

John Daniggelis hopes to lead the Bulls to a winning season in 2013.

As the Smithtown East varsity football team is hard at work on the fields training for the upcoming 2013 season, one player stands out.

John Daniggelis returns to the field as Smithtown East Bulls quarterback, hoping to improve his standout sophomore performance, Newsday reports.

"“None played as good as a sophomore as John Daniggelis did last year,” Smithtown East coach Pete Melore told Newday.

Daniggelis passed just under 1,000 yards, rushed for just under 1,000 yards all while running a no-huddle spread offense in his sophomore year in 2012. It gave him valuable experience on the field that he hopes will carry into this year.

He will return to the starting lineup for Smithtown East with juniors Cole Vittoria and John Murray, who are expected to open up holes for him.

Smithtown East finished the 2012 season with a 3-5 record, but Daniggelis hopes to improve on that. The team is seeded No. 8 this year.

The Bulls will kick off their season by hosting Bay Shore on Sept. 12 at 4 p.m.
