Smithtown East Swimmer Sets New Record in Breaststroke

Senior Ben Cono to swim in 200-yard Breaststroke on Monday

A High School East senior is setting new records at the Winter National Swimming finals in Tennessee. 

Ben Cono, a senior at Smithtown East High School, swam the 100-yard breaststroke in a personal best of 56.95 seconds at the AT&T Winter Nationals Swimming at the University of Tennessee. His time set a new club record for Team Suffolk and beat the New York City Metropolitan conference record. 

Cono moved up from qualifying in 58th place in the race to finishing in 30th. 

On Monday, Cono will be swimming the 200-yard breaststroke at the AT&T Winter Nationals. He is competing alongside Olympians such as Nathan Adrian, Katie Ledecky, Missy Franklin and Cullen Jones during the tournament.
