Smithtown-Hauppauge Hockey Loses Championship to Connectquot-Sayville

The varsity squad drops a best of three game series to its rival.

The Smithtown-Hauppauge varsity hockey team lost the Suffolk County High School Varsity Championship Series in a best of three game series to Connectquot-Sayville in two games.

The team fell to its rival 5-2 in the opening game Monday of last week and 3-0 in the second match-up Wednesday of last week. 

In the second game, the first period went scoreless until Connectquot-Sayville put a shot in the back of the net in the second period on a power play. The team followed with two goals in the third period, one of which was with an open Smithtown-Hauppauge net with three seconds left to play in the game.

The two teams faced off for the championship last season with Smithtown-Hauppauge coming out on top. The Bulls defeated Huntington-Northport and St. John the Baptist en route to the championship rematch against Connectquot-Sayville.
