Smithtown West Heavyweight Wins State Wrestling Title

Mike Hughes won the 285-pound crown title on Saturday.

Smithtown West senior Mike Hughes capped a perfect season over the weekend, winning the state wrestling title in the 285-pound class at the state wresting tournament in Albany.

Hughes pinned Spencerport's Austin Coleman at the 2:30 mark to capture the state crown.

Hughes bounced back after an emptional season last year, according to a Newsday article, which included the loss of his mother to breast cancer.
