Smithtown West Lax Star Commits to Syracuse University

Sophomore Danny Varello has signed on to play Division I Mens lacrosse.

A Smithtown West teen has been recruited to play lacrosse for Syracuse University despite still having three years of high school ahead.

Sophomore Danny Varello, a midfielder and faceoff specialist, made a verbal commitment to play Division I Mens Lacrosse for Syracuse University, TopLaxRecruits reports.

“Syracuse has a lot to offer both academically and through its athletic programs. It has a great lacrosse tradition and a strong commitment to the program. Ever since I was a kid, Syracuse has always been my dream. When my cousin Rob Welsh committed as a football player, my passion to play lacrosse there only grew," Varello told TopLaxRecruits.com.

Despite only entering his sophomore year, Varello has earned several honors and recognitions including the Top 205 All Star, Rising Sophomore Suffolk Showcase Team and playing in the Under Armor L.I. Top 100 game.

He's predicted that Smithtown West will bounce back from its loss to Ward Melville in the Suffolk County Champtionships in 2012 this school year.
