Smithtown West Tramples West Islip in Season Opener

Senior Logan Greco led the Smithtown West team scoring three touchdowns and running 161 yards.

Smithtown West Bulls kicked off their 2013 season with a win over West Islip on Thursday by final score of 50-20. 

West senior Logan Greco, a fullback, led the team's success on the field scoring three touchdowns in the first half and making 161 yards on Thursday, MSG Varsity reports. 

Greco carried the ball 19 times in the season opening, scoring three times on carries of 1, 5, and 3 yards. Not to be stopped, the Smithtown senior also contributed 2 two-point conversations on Thursday night, although coming up limping after the second one. 

The game also marked the return of Smithtown West's quarterback Matt Heldberg, who suffered serious knee injury at the end of last year. He took precautions on the field, wearing a protective brace. 

Heldberg showed off his skill for stitching together plays on Thursday night, engineering a 10-play, 75-yard push to score the first touchdown of the game.
