Sportswriters: Smithtown West Lacrosse #2 in State, Reigns in Suffolk

Smithtown High School West's strong 2013 boys varsity lacrosse season has earned the team the #2 spot in the latest New York State Sportswriters Association boys lacrosse rankings.

Only Chaminade (6-0) ranked first in class A lacrosse, though Smithtown just edges out Ward Melville (6-0), which comes in third.

When it came to the latest Long Island boys lacrosse rankings, compiled by Farmingdale Coach Bob Hartranft, Smithtown West (7-1) sits atop of the Suffolk County Top 10:

1. Smithtown West (7-0)
2. Ward Melville (6-0)
3. St. Anthony's (5-2)
4. Shoreham-Wading River (5-0)
5. Northport (6-0)
6. Smithtown East (5-1)
7. West Islip (5-2)
8. Comsewogue (6-1)
9. Bayport-Blue Point (5-1)
10. Sayville (5-1) and Miller Place (6-1)

Since the NYSSWA rankings came out on April 14, West however fell in the Suffolk standings, and is now in fourth place behind Ward Melville, West Islip and Smithtown East.
