Smithtown High Schools' Business Olympics Something Exceptional!

After spending over 40 years in the business world being both in sales and marketing I have be come interested in the school district and it's important task of educating our children.

If you want to experience something exceptional next year get involved with the annual Business Olympics in our Smithtown High Schools.  With over 40 years of business experince I can attest that the level of professionalism of the 230 students who took part in the contest this year were phonomenal.  What an exception program this has become.

The Business Olympics is an annual contest were a group of our high school students form small groups and with the guidence of a mentor come up with a new product idea.  Once they have that idea then they must create a well thought out Power Point presentation showing how that product should be marketed and deliver that presentatioin in person to a group of judges.  This year the format to the TV show Shark Tank was used so the groups also had to add a two minite sales presentation as well.   Products presented this year ranged from a simple straw that would prevent contamination if drinks are shared to the ultimate winner, a women's shoe combination where the upper shoe part could be interchangable with different heal/sole combinations.

As part to the contest the local Smithtown business community donated gernerously both gift cards for prizes and food for all.  The excitment at the end of the contest that stretched from 2:30 in the afternoon to all most 9:30 in the evening was truly incredible.  But to me what was more exciting was the level of excitment given off by all of the contestents as we were leaving High School West that evening.  I could see the many freshmen, sophomores and juniors starting to make plans for the next olympics.  I for one will make it a point to be there myself.

You are absolutely right pj. Its comparing apples to oranges. Assisted living is for the elderlyRead More that cant take care of themselves. What noise is created. They are indoors and at the age where driving may not be an option. And the facility faces Route 25A. A main corridor that has been used as a main road for over 50 years. A road that has gas stations, bars, hospitals, nursing homes, retail stores and high schools presently on it. Why not an assisted living.

Exactly. Don't see a problem having it. Many of them don't even go outdoors.

We have an assisted living center right next to our neighborhood. For the most part it is quiet,Read More there is not a lot more traffic, it even looks nice. I will take it over another strip mall, supermarket, bar any day . Like the previous poster wrote, it serves our community.
