Construction Work Backs Up Smithtown Main Street

Sections of West Main Street torn up, lanes shifted for construction work on Tuesday.

If you're driving along the western portion of Smithtown Main Street, be prepared to brake and be patient.

New York Paving crews have been tearing up a portion of West Main Street in front of Schubert's Auto Body on Monday and Tuesday. A construction work zone has shifted and narrowed traffic lanes from Redwood Lane/New York Avenue east to Elm Street.

Construction works said they were under contract for New York State, fixing utilities and wiring laid beneath the asphalt at the Maple Avenue and West Main Street Intersection. Work appears to be progressing quickly, as the single westbound travel lanes leading to Route 25A torn up on Monday were already repaved by Tuesday morning.

Eileen Peters, spokeswoman for DOT, could not be immediately reached for more information on this project.

Both eastbound lanes of Route 25/Smithtown Main Street is now torn up for work. Traffic along the stretch was heavy on Tuesday morning.
