Traffic Detour for Stony Brook Road Closure

Drivers using Stony Brook Road on Wednesday should leave some extra time to get around as a portion of Stony Brook Road is closed due to preparation for some paving work that will be done there next week.

The road was closed at the entrance to Stony Brook University Wednesday morning and traffic was diverted to area roads as workers performed milling work, which removes the top portion of the roadway in preparation to put down new roadway. The work will be happening for the entire day.

“We will be finished today,” said Frank Petrignani, a spokesperson for the Town of Brookhaven Highway Department. “Traffic is limited when work is being done to protect the people who are doing the work.”

Petrignani said residents who live on the road have access to it and that the road will be fully open tomorrow. Paving is expected to begin next week, weather permitting, said Petrignani. He was not sure if the road would be closed when next week’s work is done.
