First Fall Chill Expected Later This Week

Temperatures will struggle to reach the 50's by Thursday and Friday.

Get out your coats – temperatures are about to take an autumnal fall later this week.

High temperatures will plummet more than 10 degrees by the end of the week as a cold front pushes its way across Long Island starting Wednesday.

While the week starts amy only reach 51 degrees – a 10-to-15 degree drop from where most areas on Long Island have been averaging so far this fall. Nighttime lows will feel even colder – dropping to 40 degrees in most spots later this week and even dropping briefly into the 30’s in some less populated spots such as the Pine Barrens in Eastern Long Island.

Freeze warnings are not out of the question as the early season blast of cooler air takes hold, but meteorologists at the National Weather Service said lows near the 32 degree mark were very unlikely.

The chill will last well into the weekend, with highs forecast to get to the mid-50s by Sunday.
