Founded in 1908, the Smithtown Fire Department is a voluntary organization whose mission is to "provide the highest quality fire, rescue and emergency medical services to the residents of Smithtown and the surrounding communities." Under Chief Charles Duffy, the department's nine companies are ready to respond rapidly to emergencies 24 hours a day.
