Pols hope the cost savings will keep the company from taking its 1,600 jobs off Island.

Woman who was returning a truck to the Nesconset location accidentally hit the gas instead of the break, smashing the reception area.
A woman returning a rented truck to U-Haul Center in Nesconset drove right through the reception area Saturday night when she accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the break, according to an employee on the scene. The witness at the 771 Nesconset Highway location said nobody was hurt, but said a few workers inside had to quickly get out of the way when the truck plowed through the store. Suffolk County Police and the Nesconset Fire Department were called to the scene around 7:30 p.m. and had left by 10 p.m. Several U-Haul employees, who asked not to be identified, were working Saturday night to seal up the large hole in the storefront with plywood boards. Stay tuned for updates on this story.
