Anne Scully, Local Artist, Dies at 85
She was also a longtime kindergarten teacher.
Anne Corcoran Scully, a retired kindergarten teacher and local Long Island artist, died July 4 at the age of 85 after a long illness. Scully was well-known around the Stony Brook area for her teaching skills. A kindergarten teacher for nearly 20 years, her eldest son Peter Scully said she was praised for her hands-on approach and inventive style of teaching. More recently, Scully taught art to senior citizens at the New Village Recreation Center in the Town of Brookhaven. An artist herself, she never pursued painting professionally; instead, she made sure her students' artwork was featured. Aww, I had Mrs. Scully in 2nd grade at Mt Pleasant Elementary in Smithtown. She was so great. My greatest memory of her is a field trip to the beach. We made molds in the sand with plaster of paris. I would see her occasionally when I moved to East Setauket. What a great woman.   more ›
