Woman who was returning a truck to the Nesconset location accidentally hit the gas instead of the break, smashing the reception area.
A woman returning a rented truck to U-Haul Center in Nesconset drove right through the reception area Saturday night when she accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the break, according to an employee on the scene. The witness at the 771 Nesconset Highway location said nobody was hurt, but said a few workers inside had to quickly get out of the way when the truck plowed through the store. Suffolk County Police and the Nesconset Fire Department were called to the scene around 7:30 p.m. and had left by 10 p.m. Several U-Haul employees, who asked not to be identified, were working Saturday night to seal up the large hole in the storefront with plywood boards. Saturday night fire spotted by a neighbor.
Firefighters on Saturday night rushed to extinguish a fire in a drainage sump on Sheryl Crescent in Smithtown. A Smithtown Fire Department official on the scene said a neighbor had spotted the fire earlier in the evening and called 911. As of 10 p.m., the fire was nearly extinguished, but firefighters were still monitoring the affected area. The neighborhood is near the border of Kings Park.

Suffolk County police reported the following arrests. John Maggio, 20, of Stony Brook, was arrested May 8 in Setauket and charged with second-degree burglary. Maggio allegedly entered a home on Balin Avenue in Centereach and stole property. Christopher O'Rourke, 25, of West Islip, was arrested May 11 in Stony Brook and charged with DWI with previous conviction in 10 years. Police stopped O'Rourke after he ran a red light at the intersection of N. Country Road and Route 25A, and was allegedly found to be intoxicated. Elizabeth Mockler, 23, of Bay Shore, was arrested on May 12 in Smithtown at 4:15 a.m. on first-offense DWI charges. Reports state Mockler was arrested driving a 2007 Infiniti on West Jericho Turnpike. Jessica Lemp, 21, of St. James, was arrested on May 12 in Smithtown at 8 p.m. on third-degree grand larceny charges. Nesconset man who brought into a female tenant's apartment in hopes of sexually assaulting her April 27 to be arraigned in Riverhead Courts.
A Nesconset man who allegedly broke into a female tenant's apartment in hopes of taking sexual advantage of her will be arraigned before grand jury in Riverhard courts Thursday. Neil A. Parikh, 24, was arrested April 28 after breaking into his female tenant's apartment. He is charged with one felony count of burglary - illegal entry of a dwelling. Suffolk County police said Parikh broke into his female tenant's apartment at roughly 1:30 a.m. April 27. He told police he intended to "knock out" the woman and sexually abuse her during the break-in. However, Parikh left the premises when the woman woke up and did not assault his intended victim. A sign on the restaurant was broken in late April, police say.
Suffolk County Police are currently investigating property damage done to Casa Rustica at the end of April. According to police, a call came in at 12:20 a.m. on April 30 of a broken plastic sign. Police said a plastic sign in front of the restaurant was broken and a brick from a wall in the rear of the restaurant was discovered near the sign. Police said the incident could have happened between 10 p.m. on April 29 and 10 a.m. on April 30.

Police say the theft could have took place from the evening of April 29 to the morning of April 30.
Suffolk County Police are investigating a car theft from the driveway of a Smithtown home. Police said a red 2007 Honda Accord was stolen from the driveway at 23 Weston Lane. The time of the theft could have occured is from 8 p.m. on April 29 and 7 a.m. on April 30, according to police. The police currently have no leads and an investigation is underway.

New York State Police have arrested a Smithtown man who was found with digital photos and videos with underage children performing sexual acts, according to police. Police said Sean Murphy, 27, of Smithtown, was arrested after they received a cyber tip through the Internet Crime Against Children hotline, showing he was in possession of the photos and videos, identified through his computer account. Murphy's home was investigated in May 1 after police obtained a search warrant where an iPhone, several computers and computer storage mediums were searched, and the search from the Computer Crimes Units found photos and files, police said.
