Rich Black's Wine of the Week: Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet Sauvignon

St. James wine guru raves about this Washington State red.

If there's one wine you buy this week, St. James wine sultan Rich Black thinks he has the one you should uncork before all others.

The associate at Grape Culture this week picks the Heaven Hills 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, a second label of popular Washington State producer Columbia Crest.

When asked what adjectives he could conjure about this red, which the shop sells for around $15, Rich had these: "Dark fruit, rounded, supple yet compact. It very much expresses the terroir of Washington."

But Black said the taste alone shouldn't move you to pick this up. In fact, the wine might stroke your ego more than it delights your palate.

"You'll be the guy who says, 'I found this.' You'll have it before everybody else will be talking about it," he said.
