Sweet Lucille's Offers Savories Too

The carrot cake is top banana at Sweet Lucille's in Smithtown but their BLT will be bringing you in for lunch too.

The shop, which opened last October, is known for desserts but now offers breakfast and lunch too. The changes came about at the request of customers.

"There was winter road construction going on here and the crews were asking me for hot breakfasts, " said owner Lucille Kelley, the former baker for Butera's. "We had requests for sandwiches from customers too, so we decided to go for it."

Kelley calls the menu basic, but good food.

"We didn't want to start with a crazy menu," she said. "We don't want to be a deli."

Customers will find sandwiches made on fresh baked bread and chicken salad among other selections along with breakfast choices like eggs and pancakes.

"I wanted to offer good food at a reasonable price," said Kelley about the new menu. The highest priced lunch item is $7.95 and breakfast runs around six to seven dollars.

The shop has been going strong according to Kelley. Breakfast and lunch has brought in an additional crowd and the demand for her cakes and cookies hasn't waned. Customers can order specialty cakes for weddings and special occasions, platters of cookies or a package of mini-bites, which are miniature sized pieces of cakes offering guests a taste of several types of cakes.

Diners can also dine in. The cafe seats about thirty, with parking in front and on the side of the cafe. Gluten free and sugar free items are also available as are lunch deliveries to nearby spots.

"I love it," said Kelley of the decision to open her own place. "I think I would always regret it if I never did it."

Sweet Lucille's is located at 264 West Main Street in Smithtown.
