Unattended Backpack Yields False Alarm at Smith Haven Mall
A backpack was found unattended on Tuesday morning.
A backpack found in the center court at Smith Haven Mall caused a brief scare on Tuesday morning.
A Suffolk police spokesperson said a suspicious package was reported at around 10 a.m., and Suffolk County Emergency Services was called to the scene.
However, the backpack was deemed not suspicious and its owner was located within an hour of the initial report, the police spokesperson said.
