Clubs Plan Fall Fundraisers and Speakers
A weekly round-up of service club activity in Smithtown.
This week, Smithtown clubs and organizations spent time planning future events and fundraisers. They also are arranging for some prominent speakers to visit their organizations.
Smithtown Democratic Committee:
The Smithtown Democratic Committee members are volunteers who engage in grassroots activities for their candidates and are united by democratic principles and philosophy.

Upcoming Event: Aug. 31 is the Friends of Ira Bernstein Fundraiser to help the candidate run for New York State Senate from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Old Street Restaurant on 92 East Main Street. $50/person, Democratic Committee members $45. Guide Dog Foundation and America's VetDogs:
These organizations provide guide and service dogs for people with disabilities. They rely on the generosity of individuals, corporations, foundations, civic groups and service organizations to fund programs.
Upcoming Events: Sunday, Sept. 12 is the 21st Annual Second Sight Bike-A-Thon Freedom Ride. It is a tour of Long Island's North Shore to benefit both the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind and America's VetDogs. Rides leave from the Guide Dog Foundation campus in Smithtown and range from a five-mile fun ride to a challenging 65 miles course. Individual registration is $35 (before Aug. 19), $45 (after Aug 19), $20 (for children 17 and under). Family registration (for up to two adults and two children 17 and under) is $60 (before Aug. 19), $75 (after Aug 19) Register directly at www.tinyurl.com/GDFBike. Registration closes on Wednesday, Sept. 8.

The Masons teach principles of honor, individual faith and tolerance.

Rotary Club of Smithtown and Rotary Club of Smithtown Sunrise:
This is a group of business and professional leaders who unite world-wide to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build good will and peace in the world.

The Rotary Club Of Smithtown Speaker Series: Special Multi-Club Meeting Wednesday, Aug. 25 at 12:15 p.m. at the Watermill. District Governor Arnold Quaranta will discuss future projects and plans. $21 fee to attend.

Smithtown Women's Republican Club:
This group promotes the principles of freedom, equality, justice on which our government was founded.
Upcoming Events: Wednesday, Sept. 1 Committee Chairman Bill Ellis will familiarize the public with the new voting machines. Coffee and cake will be served. Contact 631-265-3007.
Smithtown Veterans Youth Program:
The object of this organization is to sponsor recreational activities, youth development and delinquency prevention for the benefit of individuals below 18 years of age.

Fundraisers:
Stroke Awareness Fund Raiser: Judy's Run For Stroke Awareness is a non-profit organization that promotes public awareness towards stroke detection, prevention and information on where to get help. On Saturday, Sept. 4, there will be a car wash from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Nesconset Center For Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Smithtown Emergency Food Pantry:
The pantry aids residents in need of food. It is located in the parish house of St. Thomas of Canterbury Episcopal Church on Edgewood Avenue. Smithtown. Their shelves are empty right now and they seek donations. Contact executive coordinator Patricia Westlake 631-265-7676.
