Edgewood Avenue Gridlock Getting Worse?

Main Street changes push traffic to this neighborhood route.

While the adjustment period over has at this point passed, the effect is clear: Traffic moves slower on this troubled roadway.

But the changes from locals that more traffic has been diverted to Edgewood Avenue, a neighborhood road that stretches from St. James to Route 25 in Smithtown just beyond the railway overpass, essentially bypassing Main Street entirely. It's also a shortcut for getting to Kings Park, since Edgewood intersects with Landing Avenue.

Comments emailed to Patch editors or posted on the site have targeted the new gridlock on this neighborhood road, and Patch has seen first-hand how cars back up in rush hour, especially at the intersection of 25A in St. James and in Smithtown where Nissequogue River Road and Landing Road meet Edgewood.
