Fine Hair Goes Formal

Hairpieces and hairspray help get fine hair through formal occasions.

This week Richard Daly, owner of Richard Salon on Main Street, talks about formal hairstyles and the addition of hairpieces. Have a hair question for Rich? E-mail questions@richardsalon.com with your question.

Question: I have been asked to be a bridesmaid in an upcoming wedding. What can be done with my too fine hair to make it more formal for the occasion?

Richard: There is always something formal that can be done with all hair types. Just ask yourself if you would feel more comfortable with your hair up or down and wavy, or pulled back classic style with an optional side pony-tail. Consider if it will be hot at that time of year, windy if it is a beach wedding, or if you are planning to get a bit crazy on the dance floor and need that extra hold.

For finer hair types, we love to work with hairpieces. These can be added to your hair to increase volume, length or to add curls or extra color. Most common synthetic pieces run about $100 and can be clipped in at home and used over and over again very easily.  Great quality natural hair pieces cost four to five times more and have much more versatility in the way they can be styled.
