Residents Speak on Proposed County Gas Tax Cap
Residents agreed that a tax cap will not affect prices at the pump.
This week's Residents Speak question: How much financial relief do you feel drivers will see at the pump if the Suffolk County gas tax cap is passed? Do you feel it will have a major effect on gas prices?
“They’re going to reduce taxes. I don’t think it’ll affect prices that much. It cost me $80 to fill the tank and I only get 10 miles to the gallon [a leased truck]. They [Chrysler] keep pushing me to get another truck. My next car will be electric or a hybrid.

“I don’t see any stopping of rising gas prices. The taxes are always going to be a part of that.”

"[It’s only going to affect prices] by a couple of pennies per gallon.

“I’d like to see it decrease. I’d like to see them bring prices down to the same levels as in New Jersey. In Jersey they’re paying $3.25.”
–Jerry Winston
“I think it’s a revenue poor situation locally and regionally. I don’t think they can afford not to collect revenue. I don’t think it’ll affect prices by much. It’s hovering around a certain price.
