St. James Pizzeria Under New Ownership

Frankie's Pizza is out and Lorenzo's Pizza has taken over.

What was at 600 Middle Country Road in St. James is now under new ownership and a brand new name – Lorenzo's Pizza.

The eatery is owned by Joe D'Simone, who has 40 years experience working in pizzerias, and Scott Rosenberg, who owns multiple other pizzerias under the same name as well as numerous Ralphs's Italian Ice locations.

The location was taken over by D'Simone and Rosenberg roughly three weeks ago.

While Lorenzo's is new to the area, this isn't the first venture as a pizzeria owner for D'Simone.

"I was an owner in Massapequa, I had my own place," he said. "I closed that down, I met up with this guy [Rosenberg], he owns a lot of Ralph's [Italian] Ices, and he did a Lorenzo's in Deer Park."

D'Simone said Rosenberg is from the area and once Rosenberg brought him to the location and met some of the customers that he wanted to take another shop at ownership.

One daunting task D'Simone has had to face coming into the location is fielding numerous complaints from nearby business owners and workers about the former pizzeria ownership and food quality. He said he's heard concerns from former Frankie's Pizza customers and done his best to assure them that they'd get the best product and assistance at the counter from him and his staff.

D'Simone plans on keeping the regular clientele satisfied and attracting new customers through unique and creative flavors of pizza. In addition to the regular slices you'll see a few atypical choices, from the bacon cheeseburger slice to a macaroni and cheese slice, and possibly the most unique item served – the smores pizza.

The attraction to the business doens't stop at the unique slices as Lorenzo's sells regular slices for just 99 cents. For those expecting only typical pizzeria items you're in for a surprise as they will soon be serving soft ice cream from the store as well.

Lorenzo's is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The location also delivers.

How, in a period of rapidly declining enrollment, can costs be increasing so much from year to year,Read More you ask? The answer is in front of you in black and white. I urge you to READ your district’s budget: we are funding retirements when many of us cannot afford to fund our own during difficult economic times. These wheels were set in motion by contracts negotiated in times of unrealistic growth that may likely not occur again. It is time to open up these plans and relieve this unfair burden from our shoulders. Whatever other measures are pursued in order to control costs, including consolidation within and eventually with other districts, are never going to be enough if you cannot get this problem corrected. Write your congressman, for the love of God. If you need any more incentive to do so, please go to http://rocdocs.democratandchronicle.com/database/teacher-pensions-new-york and look at what Smithtown’s retirees are collecting MONTHLY. It will sicken you.
